I am, apparently, the master (mistress?) of lame humor. Did I think he would have me confused with another funny-looking Asian, waiting outside, staring meaningfully at the door?

Exactly this date last year, around this very hour, my mother called me from Bangkok to give me her birthday blessings -- something she'd always done.
